Why it runs on your device

When you click Remove background, a segmentation model in your browser finds the subject and builds a mask. Nothing is uploaded. That means:

  • Privacy: product shots, family photos and client work stay on your computer.
  • No limits: there’s no per-image cost to pass on, so there are no credits.
  • It works offline after the model has downloaded once.

A mask, not a deletion

The background isn’t erased. It’s hidden by a mask, so a wrong edge is a quick fix: paint it back. Restore background brings the whole original back.

No. The model runs in your browser. Only the model itself is downloaded the first time you use it; your photo never leaves your device.

How good are the edges?

It handles people, products and animals well and cleans up colour fringing at the edges. For hair or fine detail, paint the mask by hand where needed. Use Select subject and Refine edge in Pro tools for more control.

Can I remove the background from a Canva design's photo?
