Can you use curves and levels in Canva?
Canva's Adjust panel has sliders but no curves or levels. Here's how to colour-correct the photos in a Canva design with real curves, levels and HSL, free.
Step by step in Piclash
- 1Bring the photo or design into PiclashImport the Canva design with the free importer, or drop the photo onto a new design.
- 2Open Curves or LevelsSelect the photo and open Pro tools (Ctrl+K or Cmd+K) → Curves or Levels. HSL is there too.
- 3CorrectSet black and white points in Levels against the histogram, then shape contrast with Curves. Fix a colour cast by adjusting one channel's curve.
- 4Compare and finishHold \ to see the photo without its edits. Adjustments stay editable; download or keep designing.
Canva’s photo Adjust panel is good for quick fixes: drag brightness up, contrast up, and you’re done. When a photo has a colour cast, flat midtones or blown highlights, sliders run out of precision. That’s what curves and levels are for.
What Canva has
Under Edit → Adjust, Canva gives you sliders for white balance, light (brightness, contrast, highlights, shadows, whites, blacks), colour and texture, plus filters. They apply to the whole photo, or the foreground or background separately. There are no curves, no levels and no histogram.
Curves and levels for your Canva photos
Piclash has the professional tools, free in your browser:
- Levels: drag black and white points to the ends of the histogram for instant punch.
- Curves: an S-curve for contrast, or per-channel curves to neutralise a cast.
- HSL: tune one colour range without touching the rest.
- Adjustment layers: one correction for several photos, editable any time.
Your Canva design comes across with its layers via the importer. Correct the photos where they sit, then export the finished design, or just the photo to swap back into Canva.
A quick recipe
- Levels: pull the black and white points in to where the histogram starts and ends.
- Curves: a gentle S, lowering the shadows a touch and raising the highlights a touch.
- HSL: reduce saturation in any colour that looks garish, such as oranges on skin.
- Hold </kbd> to compare with the original.
Questions
Does Canva have curves?
No, as of October 2026. Canva's Adjust panel offers sliders such as brightness, contrast, highlights, shadows, whites, blacks, temperature, tint, saturation and vibrance, but no tone curves or levels.
What can curves do that sliders can't?
Target exact tonal ranges. Lift only the shadows, add contrast only to the midtones, or warm only the highlights. They can also correct a colour cast precisely, channel by channel.
Can I apply the same correction to several photos?
Yes. Add a curves or levels adjustment layer above them and it affects everything beneath it.
