- 4PolishClean up any leftovers with Spot heal, or use Patch and Clone to choose exactly where the replacement comes from.
Canva’s Magic Eraser removes something from a photo by brushing over it, and it’s part of the paid plans. If you’re on a free account, or you want more control than a single brush, here’s the free way.
Erase objects in Piclash
Piclash’s Erase objects works the same way: brush over what you don’t want, and when you let go it’s filled in from the surroundings. Your Canva design can come along with its layers through the importer, so you fix the photo where it sits in the layout.
When one brush isn’t enough
Content-aware fill guesses what should be behind an object. On busy backgrounds, a hand-picked source does better:
- Spot heal blends away small blemishes and leftovers.
- Heal copies texture from a spot you choose and matches the light and colour.
- Clone makes an exact copy, for patterns like bricks or tiles.
- Patch: select the damaged area and drag the selection onto a clean one.
All retouching is kept separately from the original photo, so it can be erased or removed later.
Bringing the result back
Download the cleaned photo as a PNG or JPG and replace it in Canva, or keep working on the design in Piclash and export it from there.
Questions
Is Canva's Magic Eraser free?
It's part of Canva's paid plans (Magic Studio). Free accounts may get a limited trial. Check Canva's pricing page for the current details.
What does Piclash use instead?
Content-aware fill (Erase objects), plus spot heal, heal, clone and patch: the same family of tools as Photoshop's. They're free and run on your device.
Does it work on big photos?
Yes. The fill runs off the main thread, so the editor stays responsive while it works on large areas.
Try it on your own design
Free, nothing to install, and your work stays on your device.
